Michael Crooks is a 25-year veteran advertising copywriter, promotional marketer, author and speaker. A Battle Creek, Michigan native, Crooks is a '78 graduate of Lakeview High School
and '84 graduate of Kellogg Community College.
He began his advertising career in 1984 with Tri-State Broadcasting (WNWN/WTVB/WHEZ) radio writing and producing radio commercials. He moved to Lansing in '89.
After a brief stint with an automotive advertising firm, he landed at Marketing Resource Group, a political, marketing powerhouse. He spent the next 7 ½ years deep in the political trenches overcoming creative, production and logistical challenges that simply do not exist in other marketing arenas.
In 1997 he founded Crooks Advertising Alliance a creative strike-force specializing in creative problem-solving through advertising and promotional marketing.
Crooks, has written more than 50 articles on the subject of promotional marketing that have been published by marketing venues in the US, Canada, Australia and across Europe. He's a regular contributing writer for Brilliant Results magazine and author of ReThinking Trade Show Giveaways: Stop Simply Giving Stuff Away.
Under the Crooks Advertising Alliance umbrella, Crooks operates CrooksAdvertising, PromoReThink, Waterless Tattoos, GopLogo and StickNetics.
A former member of Toastmaster's International, Crooks served as secretary of the Coldwater, MI Chapter in the late 80's winning District competition only to be disqualified for going :05 over the time limit. Crooks ventured back into public speaking in January 2009 presenting "Creative Problem-Solving" at PPAI EXPO 2009 in Las Vegas, The "Indispensable Promotional Marketer: How To Google Proof Your Business" at Promotions East in June 2009 in Atlantic City and will present "ReThinking Trade Show Giveaways" at PPAI EXPO 2010 in Las Vegas.
Crooks was assistant Cub Scout leader from 2003 to 2009 and has been a Little League Baseball coach since 2001. Crooks has also played an instrumental role as Director of Marketing in the success his children have enjoyed selling Boy Scout popcorn and Girl Scout cookies.
Crooks is married (23 years) and has two children. He enjoys camping, domestic travel, cooking, especially over a campfire, shooting, gardening, reading magazines and people watching.
